Parks Advisory Commission

Every year, golf course staff make a presentation to the Parks Advisory Commission (PAC) explaining what the courses do and how we are doing it. This year, the Director of Golf, Doug Kelly, put together a video presentation. Here it is.

2016 Weather Summary

The highest temperature recorded at Leslie Park Golf Course during 2016 was 93.0 degrees on July 23rd. The lowest temperature was just - 4.2 degrees on February 28th. This is nearly 15 degrees warmer than the lowest temperature of 2015.  There were 10 days where the high temperature reached 90 degrees. 2015 had just one day above 90. 2016 had 38 days where the high temperature did not get above freezing. For comparison, there were 67 days in 2014 and 50 days in 2015 that did not reach freezing. The low temperature reached below 32 degrees on 116 days. Two days had low temperatures below zero. Last year saw 16 days below zero while 2014 had 20 days with negative temperatures.

For the year, the golf course received 29.47 inches of rain. The most rain in a single day was 1.93 inches on August 16. August edged out July by just one hundredth of an inch of rain for the monthly record (4.07 vs 4.06 inches.) There were 108 days with at least a trace of rain, while three days had over an inch in a 24 hour period.

The average wind speed for the year was 2.7 mph. The highest sustained wind speed was 39.0 mph on February 20th.

December 2016 Monthly Weather Summary

The high temperature for the month of December was 54.8 degrees (Dec 26th) while the low was -1.8 (19th.) Twenty-five days had low temperatures below 32 degrees while 12 days never got above the freezing point.

There were 7 days of rain recorded by the weather station, although at least some of that was snow melting and falling through the rain collector. The monthly total was 0.76 inches. Three days saw more than a tenth of an inch of rain and the 26th had the most rainfall with 0.25 inches.



Average windspeed was 3.8 mph. The highest recorded sustained windspeed was 31 mph, on the 26th. Apparently, the day after Christmas was windy, rainy and warm.
