Course Changes

At Leslie, we have changed the fairway on #11. A couple of years ago, we put a cart path that crosses the fairway in front of the green. It used to be fairway right up to the path. Last month, we cut out some of the fairway and laid in rough sod.

This video was taken in February. It is hard to see, but the path cuts across the fairway.

This video was taken in May, after the bluegrass sod has been placed and the fairway was re-shaped.

This picture is taken from above the green on #11 looking back toward the fairway.

At Huron, we began to lower and enlarge the 14th tee last fall. We seeded it this spring.

This was taken April 25th, one week after seeding.

Next week, we will begin mowing the tee. Hopefully, it will be fully open in a few more weeks.

New Forward Tee on #11

Hole #11 at Leslie Park will soon be the hole with the most separate tee boxes. In the Fall of 2011, we constructed a new back tee box that brought the possible yardage on this hole to 503 yards. (You can read about it HERE and HERE) With the new water feature/wetland put in front of the current forward tee, it has become obvious that some golfers have too much trouble getting over the hazard. We decided that a new tee box should be built on the other side of the wetland. This brings our total number of tee boxes for this hole to 5.  The yardage from this tee will be around 325 yards.

The view from the white tee. You can see the brown hump where the new tee is going to be, to the left and forward of the wetland crossing.

The intimidating view from the forward tee.

The new tee in it's infancy.

We put some bluegrass sod around the tee to define the teeing surface as well as provide solid footing for golfers walking up the bank in the spring.

The view from the bridge.

The bentgrass seeded into the tee is coming in well. We should be able to mow this before winter.

Traver Creek Project Update #7

After taking some time off at the end of the year, progress has been steady on the Traver Creek project. Unfortunately, snow has fallen and pictures do not come out well in snowy conditions.

Here are some.

Same bridge, looking toward the practice green.

Same crossing, looking back toward #11 tee.

This video was taken from #13 tee. It shows three excavators working on the creek and wetland.

Traver Creek Project Update #6

The North Pond has basically been finished. The slopes have been seeded and covered with a straw mulch. The wall is done and the pond is up to the normal level.

The South Pond underpass is done. Here you can see the forms around the headwall.

The pumper truck fills in the concrete forms.

The guy on the right in this photo has a chest mounted remote control that moves the pump chute.

Video of the pumper truck in action.

After the forms were removed.

The Arrowood Drain has been started. This will run between #11 tee and #13 tee and returns this to a more historically accurate path for the water.

This is the view from in front of #13 tee.
